In Memory of

Martin Nobbs

Martin (or Dad to me) will be greatly missed by all that knew him, but asked that DLRAA should be the recipients of any kind donations made in his memory.

or

Martin's story

It's fair to say that Martin's two great passions in life were cricket and rugby union. However, as I witnessed when I shared a memorable ride with him at Bakewell Show many years ago, he also had a love of helicopters. This, in turn, manifested in a deep respect for the activities of the air ambulance service. It is therefore fitting that his final request was that, in lieu of flowers, DLRAA should be the recipients of any kind donations made in his memory. With love and thanks from his family.

What is a gift in your will?

Legacies, also known as gifts in Wills, have a profound impact on our charity, funding 1 in 7 of our lifesaving missions. Legacies are another way in which you can honour a loved one’s memory and that gift allows their memory to live on long into the future, allowing us to save lives of future generations in their name. If you have included such a special gift in your Will, you can now show that on your loved one’s page with a pledge, or you can request to learn more about legacies with our free Gifts in Wills Guide.

  • We have such fond memories of Martin (& Christine too) and none more so than in the days immediately before our wedding - particularly manically searching for and buying hundreds of flowers!! And at our wedding too - such kind, generous and positive people to share it with. We will miss you, Martin, and will raise a glass to you often. With much love, Gem, Martin, James & Ebba x

  • I knew Martin from when we pedaled kids tricycles through our youth - cricket on the green opposite his house in Orpington and then with Locksbottom cricket club plus irresponsible youth stuff; sounds as though he continued to enjoy the rest of his life in the same way. David

  • A dear friend who would literally give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He introduced my dad and hence me to rugby! He has a lot to answer to for that. And I have a lot to be thankful for him too. He was there for my first rugby match for Lady Manners. Took us to our first international. Introduced us to Max Boyce. There for my 18th birthday, my 21st birthday, my graduation from Louisiana State University and so many more “firsts” that probably are best not mentioned on this memorial. He will be sorely missed. “Scrum down” and rest easy ole friend.

  • A decent and generously hearted gentleman who played his sport in the true spirit of cricket and, to his great credit, lived his life in the same way. No doubt he will be watching us all from that great pavilion in the sky to make sure that we do the same! He will be sadly missed.
